SHARING OUR IDEAS

Dear Faculty,

I am delighted that you have accepted our invitation to participate in this important new College iniatiative: the KCC Common Reading. We have developed the webpage for the KCC Common Reading and would like you to review it and suggest any improvements you wish or any resources you want to add.

As you can see under Study Guide for Students, a reader guide and discussion questions have been included. We need to review them, as well as the material under Resources section, and share our ideas regarding the best ways to conduct faculty-led Discussion Sessions on "The Kite Runner" during the New Student Orientation on August 30th.

So, please, start the dialogue...

Many thanks.

Reza

Dear Colleagues,

It's my pleasure to welcome you to the inaugural session of Common Reading, a Kingsborough Community College project that draws from the diverse interests of faculty, students, and staff to engage incoming freshmen in reading, writing, thinking, and talking about a shared text.

This academic year our text is Khaled Hosseini's "The Kite Runner." This novel is also the selection of the KCC Reads committee, and it will be adopted in a range of courses in the college.

If you go to the Kingsborough website, you'll find resources on the novel and its author. And your suggestions for and comments on the website and on any aspect of Common Reading are warmly solicited.

We'll be meeting for the first time as part of the New Student Orientation on Thursday, 30 August, at 11:00 a.m. Each of you who agreed to lead a session will be assigned to a room, where you'll meet with other faculty and students to discuss "The Kite Runner." The discussion should last for an hour.

Once again, let me welcome you to Common Reading. I look forward to working with you on this exciting new initiative of the Kingsborough community.

Regards,

Enid Stubin

Thanks for the information! Where and when will we find out what room we are assigned? Is there something we should do before 11AM?
